FAQ

What are hybrid eyelash extensions?

Hybrid eyelash extensions are half way between a classic set of eyelash extensions and a Russian volume set.

  • For any spaces in your eyelash line volume fans are placed in these areas to make the lash line look fuller.

This treatment will typically take 1.5 hours.

You can have your hybrid eyelash extensions applied at our Portsmouth salon.

How long do they last?

Hybrid eyelashes last up to 4 weeks before you will require another full set.

There are many factors and variables to consider to maintaining your eyelashes, we will guide you through the necessary steps to ensure you maintain that great look for as long as possible.

How to look after your hybrid lashes

Everyone's natural eyelash growth cycle is approximately 90 days. Eyelashes naturally shed and are replaced by new baby lashes and these begin to grow and fill in the space left by the lost eyelash.

It takes a little while for new lashes to reach their optimal length, in the meantime you are left with an empty looking space.

The fact is, we will lose one or more of our natural lashes every single day!

This process is totally normal and natural, but since lash extensions are attached directly to our natural lashes, together they must fall.

If your eyelash extensions are falling out, you should to consider the below:

Using mascara or other waterproof makeup

Mascara has been proven to break down the bonds of lash extension adhesive. Avoid using mascara if you want to maintain your hybrid extensions for as long as possible.

Using oil based skincare products

Just like oily skin, oil-based products can break down the adhesive bond between your lash and the lash extension, causing instant fall out.

Rubbing your eyes or even pulling on your hybrid extensions

If you suffer from dry eye and have a tendency to rub your eyes, your extensions will most likely fall out along with your natural lashes when rubbed excessively. If your own lashes fallout along with the extension, there will be nothing left to attach new extensions to, until the next phase in lash regrowth.

Avoid all rubbing of the eye and pulling of lashes when possible.

How to sleep with hybrid eyelash extensions

How you sleep, or more importantly the position that you sleep in can be a contributing factor in premature lash extension loss. Those of us who sleep on our stomachs or in odd face down positions may experience issues retaining their lash extensions for the optimal length of time.

While sleeping face down on a pillow, your lash extension will likely be pushed and bent out of shape not to mention rubbed with movement against the pillow. This force trauma will likely loosen the bond of the adhesive and cause fall out.

Improper lash extension care

Improper care like not removing dirt, debris or oil may cause lash extension loss.  Neglecting to clean your extensions can cause infection and inflammation to occur at the base of the hair follicle. Brushing is another key step in lash extension care.

You should brush your lashes with a spoolie/mascara wand as part of your daily routine but be careful and use gentle strokes when brushing.

Vitamins and supplements

Some vitamins and supplements that help with hair, skin and nails may cause lashes to shed faster, causing your lash extensions to fall out quicker than expected.

Getting your lash extensions wet too soon

We recommend that you do not get your new lash extensions wet for at least 24-48 hours after the procedure. It takes about 24-48 hours for the adhesive to properly cure a secure bond onto your lashes.

If you do get your new extensions wet, the adhesive may crystallise and cause irritation, which may lead to intense eye rubbing. After the 24-48 hour "drying period" you may resume your routine as usual.

Eyelash technician error

Even though most of us are trained and experienced, the potential for human error is still present.

Errors may include: too little or too much glue used, forgetting to or not properly preparing the lash follicle prior to lash application.

There may be occasions where the humidity in the salon where you have your classic lashes applied is not quite right, creating a scenario where the glue does not bond strongly.

If any of these problems occur within our salon, however very unlikely, we will carryout the service again at no charge.

Hormones

Hormones and imbalances impact eyelash extension retention. For example, menstrual cycles can cause your lashes to be more oily which is the worst situation as the glue will in effect attach itself to the oils rather than your eyelash. The result is the extension will simply fall off. Oils create a barrier between the eyelash and glues.
